About Me

As Stephen King says, "I recognize terror as the finest emotion."  My goal...to write something so terrifying that I scare myself.

I am a published author through several different presses as listed on my Publications page.  For more scares, see my friend Claire L Brouhard.  I promise, Our stories will not dissapoint!

For the most up-to-date information about what is going on with me, visit Ravings of a Mad Woman.  Here is my blog, or my ravings.  I hope you find them amusing.

My stories focus on psychological terrors.  You may find some supernatural elements creeping about, as well.  I'm interested in what lurks in the shadows of our rooms as well as the shadows of our minds.  What will push an ordinary person to commit unthinkable atrocities?  What might it take to make one plummet over the brink of insanity to lose herself in its depths?

If my stories frighten or disturb you, I'd really like to know.  You can send me an email using the Contact Me tab.  I look forward to disturbing you and entertaining your wicked mind.

Some of my favorite movies: Feed, The Signal, The Last Horror Movie, Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon, The House on Haunted Hill, and Thirteen Ghosts, The Faculty, The Lost Boys, The Others, The Sixth Sense, The Craft, Practical Magic, Quills...oh, and three all time favorites that have nothing to do with horror: The Fifth Element, Galaxy Quest, and Mystery Men.

Some of my favorite books: "It" by Stephen King, The Gunslinger series by Stephen King, The first three in the vampire chronicles from Anne Rice, Thomas Harris's Hannible books, The Exorcist, The Ruins, Relic, and Brief Interviews with Hideous Men.

Why Horror?

Are you kidding?  What kind of question is this?  Have you seen my muse?  It's a large, snarling beast locked in a rusty, dented cage.  It's teeth are long and sharp and dripping with drool and blood.  If I don't feed it fresh stories on a regular basis, it comes after me in my dreams, tearing my mind apart until I get up and write.  I can't live without writing horror.  My muse demands it!

"Only when humans are faced with true horror can they realize their nobler selves." Gabriel from Constantine.

Horror gets at the base of human emotion and pushes it to the limits.  Only when horrified can one truly appreciate all the beauty surrounding him.  Only when confronting death can we know life.  Sometimes we forget how beautiful and wonderful our lives are.  I like to be reminded.

Besides, horror is fun.  I love to read something so terrifying I'm afraid to turn out my lights.  I love to imagine Characters so terrible that they frighten even me.

It's a safe adrenaline rush, a way to get that same high without compromising my safety.

Recent books I've read are The Exorcist, The Ruins, and Relic.  I'm currently reading Alf Laylah wu Laylah, or, translated in English, One Thousand Nights and a Night...better known as One Thousand and One Nights, or Arabian Nights.  The reason I'm reading this is for research about the Djinn.  One of the main characters in my next novel is a Djinni and this book is the first piece of literature mentioning Djinn.  Djinn: A Love Story will be under construction starting May 1st.

A Little More About Me

I currently live in Chico, California with my wonderful and super supportive husband, my beautiful daughter, and happy dogs (one a little over a year old and the other only about 15 weeks old, both beautiful Australian Shepherds).  I spend my days knocking on doors and talking to people about their insurance needs, selling insurance to those who need it.  I spend any free time I have working on my writing.  I've been writing ever since I can remember.  It's always (and I really mean always...I can't remember a time this wasn't true) been a dream of mine to do this professionally.  I'm at a time in my life where I can finally take the steps to make this dream a reality.

Last year, 2008, I had about 20 stories published.  I'm very excited about my recent publications and invite you to share them.  I look forward to many more publications in the near future.  My book, Breaking Thresholds is complete; currently my agent through Cliffhanger Literary Agency is marketing this book, so look for it soon.

I finished writing Women Scorned in November and finished writing Sanitarium at the end of January, 2009.  Currently, I'm editing Women Scorned and will begin editing Sanitarium April 1st.  As I said above, after I'm done editing, I will begin production on Djinn: A Love Story, to be finalized by the end of December 2009.  So, I have a lot of work ahead of me this year, but I think I'm up for the task.

In short, contact me with questions or comments.  I will be regularly updating this site with publications, book signings, my own musings.

Enjoy!!
