First things first...My story, Someone You Know, will be broadcast on Suspense Radio starting Christmas day and looping about three times a day through New Years day. So, an entire week of stories...can't beat that. To hear the story, go to Suspense Magazine's website, suspensemagazine.com, and click the link for Suspense Radio. From there, click the pretty picture on the left hand side of the page and that will take you to the radio's website. From there, there will be three boxes. The one on the far right says Tune In and has three teeny, tiny icons in it. Click on the one you want to use--I always use Windows Media Player--and you will be tuned in. My story is read by my good friend Melissa Dixon. She is hoping to launch a career as a professional reader and a voice over actress for cartoons and what-not. Melissa does a fantastic job reading Someone You Know, really conveying the feeling I wanted to come across in this story. It would be worth your time to listen.
I've always wanted to write a horror story in broad daylight. Wouldn't it be fun to do it in the happiest time of the year, too? The challenge is to make light and holiday cheer something to fear. How would I accomplish this? I won't even begin to try here since it's just something I was curious about. Do any of my readers have any thoughts on this? I would really like to know.
Currently, I'm working on my short story Collection, Sanitarium. It's coming along very well. I've managed to write three new stories for it so far and am working on a fourth right now tentatively titled Meal Time. I may change the title to Fire Bug, however. It depends on how I feel about the story after I write it. As for now, though, I know I'll be done with this collection by the end of January and can't wait to share it. I'm sure you'll all be satisfied with what I'm putting together here.
I'm also very excited about the holidays. I love this time of year. I keep contemplating a Christmas horror story. Nothing like Black Christmas. I was so dissappointed in that movie. But I want my story to actually terrify. So...coming soon. After my novel Djin: A Love story is written and edited, I'm going to work on a new novel, something I've never attempted, but I'm really excited about it. It's going to be a Western/horror story. I won't say more than that. I'll have to do a lot of research to get it done, but I'm sure I'll get there.
In lighter news, I've gotten all my Christmas shopping done. My daughter is doing fantastic in school. Her school put on an international food festival on the 19th and she chose a dish from the Middle East and focused on Kuwait, her daddy's birth place. It was awesome. She made the dish all on her own and did a fantastic job. Everyone loved it.
My husband is also doing well in his career. Has some new opportunities coming his way that we are both really happy about. Things are starting to look up in all areas of my life right now.
In closing, don't forget to tune in through this week from Christmas to New Years to listen to Someone You Know as well as some other really great stories from some very talented writers.

This project is coming along much better than I hoped it would. And I've realized how much this collection is more and more a novel each day. It's so incredible. If you want to take a sneak peak at some of the stories within, you can check out my online portfolio at writing.com/authors/angelaalsaleem As always, I'll continue to post here any updates going on. As for now, these are the new things going on. Hope everyone has Hurray for me. I finished my novel, Women Scorned, On Thursday, November 20th around 7pm while I was sitting under the drying waiting for the color to come up in my hair. My daughter was with me while I typed the last line of the story. My stylist was there, cheering me on. My husband congratulated me when I came home. It was a glorious night. I also became a nanowrimo winner!!! Completing over 50,000 words in the month of October. I ROCK! For anyone who has been following my blog and is curious to know, The Far Side of Midnight is no longer going to be publishing on the internet...not until they can get their financial situation figured out. As it is, they didn't have the available time and funding to maintain the website and read the mass amount of submissions they were getting. So, alas, in short, my story, Somone You Know, will not be in their July issue. Okay, so you should all know by now that I'm a huge Stephen King fan. I have incredible news. My agency, Cliffhanger Agency is sponsoring Suspense Magazine at suspensemagazine.com, and suspense magazine is hosting Stephen King as the author of the month. Along with this priviledge is an exclusive interview from the editor of Suspense Magazine to Stephen King. Okay, so my husband and I rented movies this weekend. We watched "Apartment 1303" last night. It is a Japanese horror movie about a girl who rents a haunted apartment and suddenly commits suicide after acting very strangely. Her sister wants to know what happened and finds a very demented and angry spirit in the process. Okay, so I wanted to have my novel done by Oct 1st so I can start another one. I don't think that's going to happen. This new job is really eating into my writing time. But, something's gotta pay the bills. No big deal. I reevaluated my goals and figured it's more realistic to expect to be done with Women Scorned by Dec 1st. I'll probably finish it sooner than that, but this way I don't need to beat myself up for not getting it done when, in all actuality, I really don't have the available writing time to do more. As it is, I'm writing every day and that's enough. I started working in a new insurance agency this week. I also started writing Women Scorned this last week as I've finally finished my design documents from the Snowflake Method I mentioned earlier. The only problem with this job is that I don't have the available free time to write that I had with my other job. This means it is taking me over a week to get through two chapters when the original goal was to get through a chapter a day. I'm almost done writing chapter two. But, whoa, what a two chapters. They are amazing. I'm so happy with the way this story is coming out. Okay, so I've been working on my novel Women Scorned. It is coming along amazingly at this point in time. I am very excited about this book. I expect to be done with an initial draft in the next month or two. Okay, so getting a bit frustrated with The Far Side of Midnight. They were supposed to come out with the new issue in July. Well...July's almost up. They were publishing my story Someone You Know in that issue. When I know what is going on on their end, I'll post it here. Sorry for the delay for anyone who wanted to read that story. |
