So, a late happy New Year to you all. I've been a busy little monkey this past month. Sorry I haven't written here in a while.
Anywho...I finished writing Sanitarium and am now working on editing Women Scorned. I should be done editing by the end of March. At that time, I'll edit Sanitarium. This will give me three books being marketed!! Woohoo!! One of them is bound to be picked up.
So, editing Women Scorned...this is coming along very well. The initial draft turned out better than I expected even though what I was attempting to do with it didn't work. I found the story dragging in places where I focused too much on body language and not enough on what the character was thinking or feeling. I tried to show instead of tell...which is how you are supposed to do it...but apparently there is such a thing as too much showing, as I found out. So, I'm tightening it up so the reader isn't bogged down with long sentences describing someone rolling their eyes, or whatnot. I was going for the movie feel...but there's a reason books are still popular; they give us what movies can't...a closer connection with the characters in the story.
Yeah. Tightening the current draft and adding details where the prose was sparse. Over all, it's turning out quite well. I can't wait to finish it up and get it out there, though. I know this one will make a hit.
Sanitarium turned out better than I expected, too. It ended up deeper and more like a novel than a collection of short stories...which is what I wanted it to do. Over all, there are 31 stories. The one thread throughout each story is the Sanitarium, however there are a few other threads as well: Nurse Claire, Dr. Michaels, and Edgar. Plus, some characters make cameos in other characters' stories. It was so fun putting this together. I wrote it in chunks from the middle, end, front, back, and sides rather than from start to finish the way I do my novels. But I think it turned out better for it. I had so much fun writing this and getting into all these crazy people's heads. And the ending was better than expected.
Overall, my writing is going well. I'm staying productive. I will make it in this profession. I feel it in my bones. I'm producing work and putting it out there. That is the only way to get recognized. And I will. My agent has been working to get Breaking Thresholds published as well so hopefully I'll have news on that book soon.
Anyway, until next time...keep reading; your fear smells sweet!
